Contamination / environmental

Identification of unexploded ordnance, hydrocarbons and investigation of landfills, for example to delineate tip cells and detect leachate.

Fugro Aperio has the capability to provide a range of environmental information for example, mapping groundwater and determining the presence and extent of a range of contaminants within the ground. We serve the landfill industry by testing the integrity of tip cell liners before commissioning, by delineating poorly recorded tip cells and by mapping any contamination leaking from the site.

EM 31 Ground conductivity surveyEM 31 Ground conductivity survey to delineate the tip cell of a landfill in southern UK: the same approach can be used to trace contaminant plumes where cell linings have been breached.

Working with our colleagues at Fugro Engineering Services we can offer an integrated unexploded ordnance (UXO) mapping service using surface geophysical methods such as magnetometry in conjunction with cone penetration testing for deeper investigation.

Applications of environmental surveys are quite diverse, ranging from helping to plan site development to landfill management, groundwater studies and environmental assessments.

Landfill managers will be aware of the strict requirements for ensuring the integrity of liners before commissioning new tip cells. Fugro Aperio has the capability to detect pinhole-sized defects in liners using earth leakage detection technology ensuring compliance to regulations and effective performance.
